New in Board: Text Formatting for Notes

In the latest release of Board, our multi-purpose post-it board activity for Moodle, we’ve added one of the most frequently requested features: text formatting for notes

Why Text Formatting Matters

The content area shows markdown text with a heading '# Research,' a short paragraph about audience research, and a bulleted list using italic, bold, and bold-italic formatting. Below it, a preview box explains markdown examples such as headings, italic, bold, and numbered lists. Media attachment buttons are at the bottom

Until now, Board posts were limited to plain text. That worked fine for quick comments, but teachers and students often wanted a way to structure ideas, highlight key points, and make notes easier to read.

With text formatting, posts become clearer, more engaging, and more effective for collaboration. Whether it’s for brainstorming, peer feedback, or group reflections, formatted notes help students communicate more effectively.

What’s New

Students and teachers can now use simple formatting options to improve their notes:

  • Headings.
  • Line breaks.
  • Italics.
  • Bold.
  • Bulleted lists.
  • Numbered lists.

This lightweight but powerful feature keeps Board easy to use, while giving students the flexibility to structure their ideas in a professional and readable way.

The Impact

By making notes more expressive and structured, text formatting enhances student engagement, clarity, and collaboration. It’s a small change with a big impact on how ideas are shared and understood within the Board activity.
