MoodleMoot Spain 2025 - Valencia, Spain

The MoodleMoot Spain 2025 was held on April 2nd to 4th at the University of Valencia. The University is celebrating 525 years of history and 20 years of using its Virtual Classroom Moodle. Hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, the MoodleMoot brought together admins, developers, lecturers and Moodle Community members presenting about their use of Moodle, education and their experience at their institution.
Some of the presentations
The Moodlemoot was spread over three days; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday had a major focus on the UNIMoodle project, showcasing various project outcomes. This UNIDIGITAL project was an EU Funded project to build some Moodle tools (nine) through collaboration between the universities of Valladolid, Complutense de Madrid, Basque Country/EHU, León, Salamanca, Illes Balears, Valencia, Rey Juan Carlos, La Laguna, Zaragoza, Málaga, Córdoba, Extremadura, Vigo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Burgos.
Thursday had lots of great presentations – from community members, Moodle HQ, Partners and Certified Integrators. The day kicked off with a great session by Charo Fernandez on Moodle and artificial intelligence: a great team at the service of learning which looked at these areas
- Towards more dynamic, personalized and creative virtual courses.
- Beyond automation: towards augmented pedagogy.
- Challenges that humanize us.
Some of the notable sessions included:
- Future of OpenBadges . By Sara Arjona. Moodle (Note – Open Badges is something of special interest to Brickfield, with out Badge Awarder tool in our Skills Bundle.)
- Get the spark out of your Moodle Workshop with Itziar Kerexeta
- Encuentro presencial RAMU (Red de Administradores de Moodle de Universidades)

Friday, only a half day as it finished at 14:00 had a more intense feel with more presentations on Artificial Intelligence:
- “What’s new in Artificial Intelligence: what does Moodle offer?” delivered by Amaia Anabitarte. Moodle.
- Generation of Moodle questionnaires using IAG for teaching in Clinical Psychology by Félix Buendía and Alejandro Sanchis. Universitat Politècnica de València and Universidad Católica de Valencia.
- Moodle for Free AI Plugins: What Free Options Are There in the Moodle Directory? From Laura Jiménez. 3ipunt
- Get the most out of VisualCode with AI and MDLCode. From José Lorenzo, Ricardo Verduguez. 3ipunt
- Artificial Intelligence API. by Amaia Anabitarte. Moodle HQ
It is interesting to see how AI is being adopted, and merged into the Learning Management Systems. An area I work on a lot, wondering which aspects of the workflows and processes should be AI enhanced, and which should not. I will be posting on this topic soon enough.
Taking part

Our Head of Customer Success, Laia J Canet Celma, delivered a workshop on Thursday and a shorter presentation on Friday. On Thursday the 1 hour workshop covered “Avoid the most common accessibility barriers in your online courses.”. During the session attendees were brought through 18 rules to follow when creating digital content – emails, social media, documents, web content, and course content. These followed the Tips on our Accessibility Tip Cube and Zine. You can download our Tips Zine in English and Spanish.
Next they were asked to collaborate on top issues in a collaborative board inside a Moodle site, and lastly they were tasked with self-assessing their daily practice of accessibility. This was delivered using our Compass Plus tool – part of the Skills Bundle. Apart from getting personalised feedback to each of the 18 behaviours they ranked, we also can see the average scores as shown in the below radar graphs.
On Friday, The ten most common accessibility mistakes in online courses was focused on. These are errors we have seen on many Moodle courses around the world and are consistently the ones needing fixing first!
Assessing your own Moodle Accessibility IQ

This Moodlemoot was the first one we ran our new Accessibility IQ self-assessment. We have a complete framework and a mini reduced question version of only 18 questions, which mirror the tips on the Accessibility Tip Cube and Zine.
The full framework is a competency framework of 80 behaviours which a teacher can self-assess themselves against by selecting a level of mastery for that particular behaviour in a skill area, such as always using Alt Text for images that need describing.
Once they complete all the questions, they are shown radar graphs for each Skill area, showing where they are compared to the potential top-level mastery. They are also given question specific automated feedback based on each answer they select.
This is delivered with our Compass Plus plugin, which is included in our Skills Bundle. We and our partners will be offering this self-assessment across the coming months in multiple languages at the various events, conferences, and Moodlemoots that we will attend.
Sponsored by Brickfield
